Frequently Asked Questions

All classes will be held in 3 consecutive Saturday classes, meaning you will have time to absorb and integrate. Classes are maxed at 20 students and are taught directly one-on-one. All classes have heavy hands-on practice and theory. You will be intellectually and physically challenged. Having experienced some of the best Tuina, Acupuncture, Meditation, and Yoga teachers and programs, I have found that an intimate group of serious students is what fulfills my role as a teacher and keeps my standards at a high level. I take students, laypeople, and board certified health practitioners from different backgrounds. I reserve the right to deny anyone for the trainings if they don't match with the ethos of our program. This is a private program that is rarely available in this format, you will formally go through an interview process to see if this program is right for you. I don't offer CMBT or any certifications identifying Tuina as a massage practice. Tuina predates and is a system that requires much more rigor in my trainings then the standard massage paradigm. Massage therapists are welcomed to integrate Tuina, but it is not bodywork or massage. Acupuncturist are welcomed, both as students and licensed practitioners. It is advised to take the courses in the proper sequence to understand the logic and nuance of Tuina pedagogy, but I do allow taking classes flexibly if the student has shown great promise and aptitude. There is no rigidity in this method, but if a student shows technical or academic deficiencies in their knowledge they must pass a oral/practical examination to take on a class for a fee. This is a post graduate training intended to make the best Tuina students globally.

What are unique to this program versus other bodywork or Tuina programs?

What is the purpose of studying Tuina?

Our program fosters a community of skilled artisans who work with their hands. Mansoor's vision is to open a creative space for honing specific hand techniques and protocols grounded in classical Tuina apprenticeship. This program is a methodical approach that uses Classical Chinese medicine to help with physical pain and emotional distress. Tuina is not yin or yang, but a marriage of both. You will learn to curate treatments based on constitution, seasons, channel and what the clients needs are.

Can I use this training right away?

This training is focused on results and quick treatment for acute conditions in orthopedic, sports medicine, or neurological conditions. Patients expect results but also a proven methodical way to mitigate pain, stiffness, and decreased ROM in between treatments. Self-care routines will be taught and emphasized. Patient communication will also be taught as this is a cornerstone in educating your clients in their bodies.

However, chronic and complex conditions require a discerning and careful diagnosis which can be very problematic at first, but with a proper assessment and keen palpation taught in our training you will have superior kinesthetic skills in forming a better diagnosis. This class will help you with your talking, thinking, and application of a Tuina centered movement strategy.

What is Mansoor’s experience in Tuina?

I first started studying Tuina in 2012 with Dr. Frank Butler under the Zheng Gu Tuina system. I have completed the entire series of training, going beyond the standard training by co-teaching and assisting seminars. I also have completed a one year fellowship in sports medicine Acupuncture and Tuina at Evolve Health NYC. This is the most extensive program in the US as a Tuina, orthopedics, and acupuncture focused clinical training. In this formal apprenticeship I approached TCM in a traditional context of learning as I was doing. Theory took a back seat to practical, showing me clearly that textbook medicine has some clear limits. Continually learning based off what the clinic and the patients needed and my mentors approach. Alternatively, I have also practiced and apprenticed with Dr. Hon Lee at Sports Edge Acupuncture, where I conducted Tuina in conjunction with Dr. Lee treatments focusing on Balance method and Master Tung’s. Currently, I have finalized my tutorial application with an apprenticeship with Dr. Robert Levine to focus on pulse, Tibetan medicine, and Chinese medicine internal framework. My time in the clinic is heavily focused in two directions: post surgical rehabilitation and geriatric, aging, and arthritis. I have had 10 years of practice and have taught Tuina, Western medical sciences, and pulse for 6 years. I have co-taught and assisted  Dr. Anthony van der Muhll in his orthopedic acupuncture certification program and doctoral program through zoom. I have also completed Whitfield Reeves Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship program. I am also an AOBTA-CP and AOBTA-CI. I am in the process of creating a 500 hour Tuina certification series. I have extensive experience in graduate cadaver lab, emergency medicine triage, combat medic training, military role playing simulation, linguistic and language training along with my extensive apprenticeship trainings in Asian medicine. I have always enjoyed teaching skill sets that require intuition, creativity, and mindfulness on the part of the teacher and subsequently the student.

What are the payment options?

Venmo, Apple Pay, cash, check. Full payment must be made prior to the first day of training

What other trainings has Mansoor completed?

I have undergone western and eclectic herbal training through the AHG pathway with Lenna Keefer and Theresa Boardwine. I have studied with Matthew Wood, Dave WInston, and Sevensong. I have also studied with Tias Little in the Prajna 500 hour Yoga and Somatics program. Completing the SATYA somatic training program in the first cohort, I use yoga therapy to encourage channel theory and vice versa. I heavily weave anatomical training in the yogic and Daoist traditions with that of modern somatic pioneers like Feldenkreis, Pilates, and many others. I have also undertaken wilderness survival EMT trainings. I am also a mushroom or mycology expert in modern clinical usage of mushrooms in the treatment of disease but also of growing them. I have studied mushroom cultivation with Robert Roger and Tradd Cotter when mycology was still underground.

I also have extensive military training in hand to hand warfare, Judo, wrestling, Xing yi, and Tai Chi internal martial arts practice. I maintain a daily meditation practice to foster a better mindfulness for my Tuina practice.

I plan to offer more mycology, yoga, meditation, and martial arts training when there is interest on the subject.
